The Canadian Cancer Society fights cancer by funding research to outsmart cancer. Over the last five years, we have invested $18.7 million into research that explores the many aspects of childhood cancer, resulting in breakthroughs in both diagnosis and treatment that have dramatically increased the chances of survival for children with cancer. While the incidence of childhood cancer has remained relatively stable since 1985, there has been a dramatic decline in childhood cancer death rates – dropping from approximately 41 in 1985 to 23 per million children in 2007.
